Punsand Bay and Somerset Beach

Next day we moved on to our 2 booked nights at Punsand Bay Caravan Park, via the Croc Tent. It was a useful stop to get a map of the tip and Russ chose his birthday present – a tasteful Tip of Australia T Shirt. We managed to manoeuvre into our site and then found out later that the one we thought was next door was also ours – it would have been so much easier to get into!!

We had thought we’d also camp at Somerset Beach, on the far eastern tip because it would be protected from the strong winds by Albany Island. However, it was still very windy – and too windy to get the tinny in! We met a guy from Tasmania who had built his own campervan from a Fuso truck – he previously owned Huon Yachts.

We drove the extra 2km to the more southerly tip of Somerset and found a stunning piece of coastline with a strong current and ferocious wind. We thought about camping here and Russ thought the fishing would be great, but he thought it would be difficult to actually land a fish on the rocks. I thought it would be a bit difficult to get in there with the van.

Had a fabulous evening with Steven and Margaret although unfortunately the pizza wasn’t up to the same standard. Said goodbye to Steven and Margaret the next morning, although hopefully we’ll meet up with them again on this trip or at home.
There's a big area of rainforest just south of the tip and we really loved driving through it

Somerset Beach was beautiful and it would have been lovely to stay here.

The Jardine family graves were just near the beach.

The far eastern tip of Somerset Beach - very windy

The rock is very sharp and looks as though it was formed from the ash from a volcano - much like the rock at Mutee Head.
