Weipa

We were pleased to see the frigate birds at Peter Evans Landing. The Pizzey Bird app says that this is the only roosting site on mainland Australia although we didn’t see them land. We also checked out the swamp and the river mud flats near the 750m bridge but didn’t see anything new.

Danny and Monique and Raphael and Zac were next to us at Weipa Caravan Park and we had a lovely long chat after watching the sun set over the ocean. Danny gave us great info about places to fish at the tip and he seems to be as keen on fishing as Russ is.

As we left Weipa, the boom gate closed and the traffic lights turned to red. We hoped a big bit of machinery would pass through, but it only turned a corner some distance away and kept going. This was the best photo I could get of the massive Weipa mine machinery.
