Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival - Day 1 morning

Next day we met some of our delightful neighbours – Janelle and Peter from Launceston and 2 doctors from Melbourne/Port Douglas. The dancing was mind blowing and we took hundreds of photos. I met a delightful young girl from Lockhart River and she proudly told me that Lockhart River were the winners in 2015. She said she was too shy to dance but by the end of the Lockhart River performance she told me she wished she had been dancing. She said she would dance tonight. She is going to school in Mossman next term and her sister goes to school in Brisbane. Meeting her was a treat for me. The first dances were by children from each of the groups. It was heartening to see how engaged the children were in performing their traditional dances.

The Seisia dancers were very colourful and had amazing head dresses - presumably the influence of being close to PNG.

Each dance group had their own musicians and they were a treat in themselves
