The Bloomfield Track

Our expectations of the Bloomfield Track weren’t realised and it was much more like a 2WD track than a 4WD one. It was very steep in places – probably at least 20% gradient but mostly a great road of a decent width. The few caravans we saw weren’t having trouble, but I was pleased we’d left ours behind. Cowie Creek was absolutely divine and we took loads of pictures here. We tried to get to the mouth of the Bloomfield river, but no luck. The Wujal Wujal art centre was interesting with about 10 women working hard on their art. Lynelle, a batik artist from Cairns was training the women in batik and had some magnificent designs ready for the Cairns and Darwin Indigenous Art Competitions. I bought a beautiful aqua and orange silk scarf to add to my collection. I would have loved to buy a 3m long black silk scarf with a stinging nettle motif but it was being saved for the art shows in Cairns and Darwin.

We left early to avoid some traffic on the road back to the ferry. Luckily we met a B double on a wide section of the road.
