Atherton Chinese Temple and Mareeba Wetlands
Next morning we left Malanda and called in at the Chinese
Village on the outskirts of Atherton. Em’s father is well known there as a
local Chinese farmer and contributor to the museum and temple restoration. Photos of his
father and mother and their family tree are in the museum as well as a recent
family photo. The National Trust museum is presented very well and the temple is well
restored.
The Mareeba Wetlands didn’t have many water
birds so we pushed on. They are breeding Gouldian finches so we were pleased to see them, albeit in captivity
