Nora Creiner

Our next stop nearly resulted in Russ spending more of the bank's money. From the map, Nora Creiner looked like just another little seaside towns at the end of the road. After some gravel road we arrived at a padlocked gate with a "private property" sign and we thought our trip had been wasted. Fortunately the son of the owner came along in his old ute and told us how his grandfather had bought the land many years ago and allowed people to build fishing shacks on the land. He had then negotiated with the local council to allow this unusual set up to continue. He explained that shacks passed from one generation to the next with rarely anything being for sale. However, there was one for sale at the moment for $200k. Food for thought.

We wandered along the main sandy track, around the utterly peaceful settlement of shacks. It was clear that most houses were vacant - one of the rules is that owners are only allowed to spend a maximum of 6 weeks at a time in their house. Other rules were quite reasonable such as dogs have to be on a leash and that antisocial behaviour is strictly prohibited.

We strolled up the track to the beach and found this!!

Not the best photo (below), but it shows the whole beach. A few visitors had parked their cars on the beach and wandered around the rockpools to catch crays.

If it had been closer to home, we would have thought harder about buying into this amazingly beautiful and peaceful place.
