Darwin

On the way to Darwin, Mistake Billabong, Rockpool and Bird Billabong were lovely quiet spots and the latter delivered on the birds – most we’ve seen in one spot so far.

Darwin was fabulous and we stayed for a week, much longer than planned. We loved the waterfront with the wave pool restaurants and fantastic gelato bar. The bike path goes all the way from Lee Point to the town centre and after 26km into town (one way), we indulged in lunch with wine overlooking the marina – our sweaty bike gear didn’t deter anyone – Darwin is so relaxed! The wildlife park was amazing – fresh and salt water tanks, enormous aviaries and a nocturnal enclosure. The most birds we’ve seen was exceeded at Fogg Dam where there were hundreds of magpie geese and so many other water birds.

 Crimson Finch

variety of water birds, but mainly magpie geese
Jabiru
At the Darwin Wildlife Park, an osprey was in the raptor display.

 Bush Stone Curlews

 Young fresh water crocodile

Lee Point where we stayed, at the north of Darwin. We think the Coburg Peninsula would have looked like this...we can only imagine!
